Our network of editorial consultants comprises journalists and broadcasters who have worked for outlets such as the BBC, Economist, Guardian and Independent , as well as specialist writers with in-depth knowledge of a range of trade, business, public and not-for-profit sectors. The core team also has considerable experience in journalism training and mentoring in the UK, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Our name reflects our roots. In the traditional newspaper, the op-ed is typically a 500–800-word article on a topical subject. Also known as a “guest column” or a “think piece”, it is usually written by a non-journalist and edited by staff journalists.
The term’s origins are uncertain. Some say it is a contraction of “opinion” and “editorial”. Others say it stands for “opposite the editorial” — reflecting the article’s prominent position in the print edition of the newspaper, opposite the editor’s column.
